All is not as it seems

When I finally turned off the TV last night and went to bed one thing was very clear. Our country has expressed its outrage at the first two years of the Obama Administration and its policies in a big way. But I could not find one pundit on any of our local channels who acknowledged that. Then again why should they. All of the Congressional seats in Massachusetts and almost all of the Constitutional positions remained in Democrat hands. At first glance it looks like the Dems put a good old fashioned beat down on the Republicans in Massachusetts. But there are some signs that all is not well if you are an establishment Democrat. In the heavliy gerry mandered MA 2nd Congressional District for instance, Richard Neal, a 22 year democrat incumbent, was able to use his war chest to run TV ads and radio spots against his opponent, Republican Tom Wesley. Wesley's budget did not allow any of that and instead he relied on a facebook network and a grass roots effort. This district includes the Democrat strongholds of Holyoke, Chicoppee, Northhampton and Springfield among others. Yet wesley, a virtual unknown until his primary win in September, captured 41% percent of the vote! That is not a small number given the circumstances. Similar scenarios played out across Massachusetts! Offices like Secretary of State, State Auditor, and Governor had to be fought for to be held by incumbent Democrats.
So what did this election mean for Massachusetts going forward? Even before the polls closed I was hearing Democrat pundits on local radio stations bragging about having gone door to door in strong Democrat neighborhoods and bringing people to vote! I am not saying that is wrong but here in Massachusetts one of our unfortunate realities is that a large majority of Democrat voters do not follow the issues, they simply look for the D next to a persons name and vote accordingly. I heard that first hand while I was making hundreds of phone calls for Charlie Baker. So many people, mostly elderly, asked me who the candidates were for Governor. The next question was always, "Who is the Democrat?". The Massachusetts Democrat machine knows this all too well and that is why they rely so much on getting people to the polls any way they can. It's also why there are very few Democrat supporters outside the polling places holding signs or rooting for thier respective candidates, they simply don't need to be there. But something is happening in our great state that is a clue that change is coming. There are more and more Republican supporters and now Tea Party people showing up outside the voting locations every election and they are an energized group! It is not coincidence that Republican candidates were able to post respectable numbers in many of the races. Eventually, as the Tea Party movement and the Republican Party continue to spread the message that the rest of the country has already heard, the numbers will grow and the Democrat Machine tactics will no longer work. How many election cycles will that take? That will depend on how many good conservative candidates are willing to jump into the fray. It will also depend on how good the conservative movement will be at spreading their message, which for those people who do follow the issues is more often than not the right message. Fortunately new concepts like Facebook networking, internet news and blogging will help. While they won't admit it openly it should be pointed out that most of the people the Democrats currently rely on to vote like robots are older citizens who are less familiar with those new technologies. Yes, there is a change coming whether the Democrats admit it or not. Yesterday should not be looked at as a crushing defeat but rather as a hard lost fight that can pave the way to great victories ahead if the conservatives stay true to their course and don't give up!

Let's bring it home!

It was late fall last year when I first heard Scott Brown being interviewed by Jim Polito on the WTAG morning show. There was something about his answers and the way he spoke that made me sit up and listen. For the first time in my memory I thought there was finally someone running for Senate who I could relate to. When I called his campaign and offered to volunteer it was also the first time I had ever gotten involved. And I wasn't alone! Hundreds of other people all around Massachusetts and beyond did the same thing! In addition the rise of the Tea Party Movement coincided with Scott's run and on Jan 19th the unbelievable happened! A Senator from Massachusetts would once again have an R next to his or her name. That victory was heard loud and clear across the country and especially here in this so-called blue state. Person after person stepped up to become Republican or Independent candidates against the likes of Duval Patrick and Martha Coakley. That roar first heard in January is still sounding and louder than ever. Next week on Nov 2nd we collectively have a chance to continue winning against the tax and spend liberal moonbats in this state and in Washington! Please talk with your friends, neighbors and family about the importance of this election. Don't be afraid to put it all on the line. Support these brave candidates who have dared to stand up against the Massachusetts Democratic Machine! I truly believe if we get out the vote we will prevail and bring some common sense back to government. Keep the pressure up, it's working!

Who's afraid of the voters?

Why Congressman Richard Neal, that's who! This past week the Spencer New Leader ran a piece showcasing career politician Neal who spoke recently to the Senior class at David Prouty High School in Spencer. While that might be the right thing to do once in awhile for any Congressman, doing it now, three weeks before one of the most important elections in our lifetimes, instead of talking to actual voters just seems cowardly. I grew up in Millbury and Spencer. I went to David Prouty High School and I now live in Leicester. I am 46 years old, a former police officer, and a veteran of the first Gulf War. As God is my witness I have never seen Richard Neal until this past Sunday, October 10th when he marched in a parade in Grafton. That after his being in office for over 20 years! That's not to say Neal and his cronies haven't been around, they just haven't been around actual voters who might ask certain questions and might be angry at how he and his tax and spend liberal friends have taken our hard earned money and thrown it away to special interest groups or private colleges. Maybe Congressman Neal knows deep down inside the only people who really buy his brand of governing are young people like those at my alma mater who probably just don't know any better.  Well I have some questions for you ,Congressman Neal, even though I am a voter in your district and I know the chances are slim that you will answer any of them. Why should you when it is clear no reporters from our local print media will ask you any either but here goes anyway.

Congressman Neal, why won't you come to towns like Leicester and debate Tom Wesley in front of people who can actually go in a voter booth and vote?

Why do you need to have George McGovern with you when you do speak to voters in your district? Remember the health care town hall last year?

Why won't you explain to the voters of your district how spending over $400,000 of stimulus funds on refurbishing a dorm for a private college is more important than making sure the town the college is in has a full compliment of police officers on duty, or a viable fire station, or street lights that work.

How is it that you have voted favorably on every major piece of legislation generated by president Obama's agenda when you know that some of those bills will hurt Massachusetts citizens. For example, on the health care issue, we are now going to pay higher federal taxes for something our state already provides out of our state taxes!

Congressman Neal, why are you a rubber stamp liberal Democrat for the liberal establishment in Washington DC instead of a true representative for the people who live in your district? For example you voted to give billions and billions of dollars to car makers in Michigan and fat cat bankers on Wall Street while schools in your district are falling down, fire protection is on a part-time or volunteer basis for the most part, and there is high unemployment! Don't you think some of that money could have been used to improve the lives of the voters you served instead?

There is no doubt, based on your actions Congressman Neal, that you are a coward when it comes to facing voters like myself or a viable challenger like Tom Wesley. It is clear you are much more comfortable in front of teenagers than in front of any of your real constituents. I can only hope it is clear to my fellow citizens in the second district too on November 2nd!

Where is the urgency?

As the November elections approach I am struck by the apparent lack of urgency and effort on the part of some of the challengers in the upcoming election. Poll after poll tells us the incumbents are facing very tough battles in their respective races. But polls are not the same as votes and if the challengers really want to make a difference they need to get out and work for it! Career incumbent politicians like Richard Neal and George McGovern just don't have to work as hard because lets face it, they have used their positions to fill their war chests and can count on a large number of voters, especially here in Massachusetts, to look for a D next to a candidate's name. Fortunately that is changing as evidenced by Scott Brown's election. If the challengers running for office this November really want to serve they need to get their message out. Where are the Lamb signs? Where are the Wesley signs? Where are the Baker signs? How about the standouts? What about the phone calls? It's time for those working with these candidates to get up and get out so the voters will hear their messages. They just might find the electorate is listening and more than willing vote for real change!

Where is ICE when you need them?

Earlier today I heard about a protest going on outside of Scott Brown's office. Apparently some college students want him to support Harry Ried's proposal to allow any illegal alien who goes to college or serve in the military to be become full citizens. A couple of things immediately came to mind. First, there should never be any illegals sitting in any college classes as long as there is one citizen who would want to be there instead! What is not mentioned is how these illegals benefit from not having to pay taxes which in turn helps allow them the ability to afford to be in college. Second, why weren't the authorities arresting these criminals? It's amazing how entitled these people act!...I am begging Senator Brown to ignore these thugs and to vote against this proposal. As for those who serve in the military being allowed citizenship, that should be one on a case by case basis and combat service should be a per-requisite.
